Engineering Index Joins SearchPlus

Web View | Print View

by Karen Clay

Engineering Index at LANL has been merged into LANL's new SearchPlus interface. A comprehensive interdisciplinary engineering database, Engineering Index covers over 4,500 international journals, conference proceedings, books, technical reports, and dissertations. Coverage starts in 1969 and is updated weekly.

What this new interface does provide is the possibility of conducting a simultaneous search across all of the SearchPlus databases.

What's Different?

Although the interface to Engineering Index through SearchPlus will be visually different from the current interface, there will be no added features and no changes in functionality with the switch.

What this new interface does provide is the possibility of conducting a simultaneous search across all of the SearchPlus databases. The simultaneous database search is easy and quick and the search results are displayed as a single merged set. In addition, the record display may provide more information, since records in SearchPlus merge the data and indexing from the different databases covered. Finally, cited reference searching is offered in SearchPlus for records that are available in the citation indexes.

Access to Engineering Index

Until December first, Engineering Index will be available through the current Engineering Index at LANL interface. After December first, the URL will be changed to the SearchPlus URL.

You can always access Engineering Index from the Databases A-Z listing on the Stanford University Libraries home page.

Other Databases in SearchPlus

The databases already available through the SearchPlus interface are BIOSIS, a database that indexes the literature of the life sciences; INSPEC, a database that indexes the literature of physics and electrical engineering; and the ISI citation databases SciSearch, Social SciSearch, and Arts & Humanities Search.

Articles on the migration of previous LANL databases into the SearchPlus interface can be found in previous issues of Speaking of Computers:
