Stanford University now has access to the new Oxford Dictionary of National Biography both in paper (in Green Library's Information Center) and online.
This dictionary is a successor to the classic Dictionary of National Biography. It contains "50,000 specially written biographies of the men and women who shaped all aspects of Britain's past, from the fourth century BC to the year 2000."
Simply click on the Subscribers enter here box to start your search. In addition to the Quick Search, which allows you to search by the name of a person or words in the text, the Advanced Search allows you to search for people by places, gender, life events, religious affiliation, dates alive or active and fields of interest. You can also search 10,000 images in the database by artist and date.
