The PGM (Platinum Group Metals) Database is published by Johnson Matthey PLC and is offered online free of charge. An extensive list of properties is provided for each substance including 21 physical properties, 29 fundamental properties, 10 chemical properties, and 22 mechanical properties. The database also provides phase diagrams of platinum group metals alloy systems and over 1000 related graphs, diagrams and pictures.

The database provides a comprehensive collection of physical, mechanical and chemical data for the platinum group metals (platinum, palladium, rhodium, iridium, osmium and ruthenium) and their alloys.

The property data is displayed in a user-friendly view, giving a comprehensive picture of a material and its capabilities, and is all footnoted. Most of the data is published data, although internal Johnson Matthey data is also included. Links showing the citation from which the data was drawn are provided, and in cases where the data shown was taken from a graph, the link to the graph is given. In addition to the properties data, the PGM Database provides a general description for each substance, including its history and uses, and a section on health and safety aspects.

The software allows users to either browse the data, to search through the data for a particular word or phrase, or to search for and identify materials that meet specified physical, mechanical and chemical properties. Preferences for the unit system used, the number of significant figures displayed, and the numeric display style can also be selected. The data can be exported to a number of finite element packages (ABAQUS, ANSYS, COSMOS, NASTRAN, PATRAN, or ProEngineer).
