Social Science Data and Software (SSDS) staff members can assist you in finding and getting data from the array of resources available at Stanford, and in using popular quantitative software (SPSS, SAS and Stata) and qualitative software (NVivo, ATLAS.ti and SPSS Text Analysis for Surveys). Resources and services include:
- Consulting is available via email or during walk-in hours and a Contact Us link is available from the SSDS Web site. Walk-in consultations take place during Fall, Winter and Spring quarters in The Velma Denning Room, Monday - Thursday, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m.
- Access to key SSDS data resources including ICPSR (Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research), The Roper Center for Public Opinion Research and DEWI (Data Extraction Web Interface).
- A reference library of software manuals, textbooks on statistics and advanced methods, dataset codebooks and a selection of magazines and journals.
- Getting Started guides for using software packages in different operating systems, resources for learning more about popular software, tips for data entry, and other useful documents.
- A rich collection of numeric data on CD-ROM from U.S. government agencies, international organizations, foreign governments and independent producers.
- Quarterly workshops provide information about SSDS resources and services in general. Other workshops highlight ways to find and get data for social science research and instruction and the quantitative and qualitative software choices available to researchers at Stanford.
- Current and archived information about SSDS resources and services via the SSDS Blog.
